WELCOME TO THE MAKING PRACTICE BASED LEARNING WEBSITE

This website aims to enhance the quality of student experiences whilst on practice, i.e. work-based placements. A key part is a resource section containing materials that can be used by anyone involved in many aspects of practice based student supervision, including preparation and support. A new resource is the 'Toolkit', which consists of paper based materials designing for placement tutors, supervisors, mentors and facilitators. Further details are available at http://www.akdpress.com/

Mapping Standards

The site contains a facility for mapping (against existing standards and is divided into three parts. Part one contains links to a range of professional and statutory standard documents relating to education and training. Part two maps five of these standards against the six themed categories contained within the resources section of this website. Part three provides templates for individuals to record work carried out toward achievement of NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework, the Health Professions Council's Standards of Education and Training or the NMC standards relating to Learning and Assessment in Practice.

The materials contained in this website often refer to the 'practice educator'. This is the identified practitioner in the practice placement who facilitates the student learning, face to face on a daily basis and generally has responsibility for the formative and/or summative assessment of competence. A glossary of terms provides more information about terminology within this website.

This website aims to enhance the quality of student experiences whilst on practice, i.e. work-based placements. A key part is a resource section containing materials that can be used by anyone involved in many aspects of practice based student supervision, including preparation and support. These resources were either commissioned by the Making Practice Based Learning Work team or externally sourced web materials. These materials have been peer reviewed and are freely available for anyone to use in enhancing the nature of practice education. In addition, the materials have been developed for use in health care student placements, but can often be used for other non health care disciplines.

Although the website has been developed for health care professionals in the first instance, much of the material it contains is generic and often taken from other disciplines. The material is transferable to many subject areas that have students learning and being supported in the workplace.

The Making Practice Based Learning Work team are currently examining the application of the resource in non health related disciplines and will be developed further as a result of this activity.

Development of this website was made under the FDTL Phase 4 scheme. Further information about FDTL projects can be found by clicking on the link below.
